Newlands Forest, Cape Town
Join Joanna Tomkins and Rachael Duffy on 15th May in the Newlands Forest for this Truth Mandala where we come together to express our anger, grief, anxiety, hope and love for our world.
While grief is not usually an emotion that is welcomed in our society, we offer this ritual in recognition that emotions that are not allowed their full expression can cause blockages in our minds, bodies and spirits.
This process, drawn from the Work that Reconnects, is an invitation to bring the fullness of what you are feeling about what is happening in our world (and/or in your personal lives) right now, and to be held in a sacred container, in community. This way of truly honouring our grief can be extremely transformative and healing, and reminds us of how to rest back in care and compassion, in recognition of our interbeing.
Booking essential.

Temenos Retreat, McGregor
In a world filled with immense shifts and challenges, where do we find the strength to navigate it all? Join us for this Winter residential retreat ‘Bringing Ourselves Home’ - a weekend of deep connection, song, ritual and regenerative practices, based on the Spiral of the Work that Reconnects.
This retreat will revitalise, remind us of our deep interconnection, and build resilience and strength to offer our unique gifts as we act on behalf of life. When we realize our radical interconnectedness with all peoples and species, we become part of the Earth healing herself.
About the Work that Reconnects:
The Work that Reconnects offers us a place of support in times of great change. We will share practices that help us remember, experience and celebrate our belonging to the Web of Life. In doing so we can embrace the vitality that is present in this moment, also in these times when we see life hanging in the balance. How can we be human in a way that honours all beings? This is an invitation to explore this in the presence of our kin.
The spiral offers us a solid and profound framework to explore our deep belonging and care for the world.
Starting from gratitude we feel the nourishment of this ancient practice of giving thanks, building up resilience as we do so. We give space to honouring our pain for the world, recognising that grieving is an essential part of stepping into wholeness. Seeing with new eyes shows us ways to tap into the wisdom of many traditions, our ancestors and kin, thus we strengthen our awareness beyond our species and widen our experience of time. Here we breathe deep time and deep ecology. In going forth we let our deep longing speak as we clarify our vision of the world we want to live in, and identify steps we are willing and able to take, no matter how small or large.
Leave with
· A deeper connection to both yourself and the world around you.

· Tools for transforming pain into love and resilience, fostering a sense of community with others who share the same commitment to positive change.
· Increased inner strength and resilience to face the ecological and social challenges of our time, not by avoiding despair, but by allowing yourself to feel it deeply, transforming it into compassionate action and enduring hope.
· A renewed sense of purpose, and increased clarity and aliveness on how to contribute your unique soul gifts in service of the healing of this world and ‘the Great Turning’.

In these troubled and troubling times we are in the middle of a profound opportunity for a shift in society and culture towards a life-sustaining future, for the whole Earth community. This is what Joanna Macy, founder of the Work that Reconnects, calls the 'Great Turning'.
Active Hope circles are an opportunity to experience some reconnecting practices around the Spiral of the Work that Reconnects but also to engage in facilitated conversation around themes that speak of the Great Turning in our community.
These monthly spirals will also allow for the emergence of more practice of the Work that Reconnects in South Africa, spreading important tools for these times of growing complexity. We wish to facilitate inclusive conversations inspired by our diversity.
These gatherings offer a supportive space to explore our feelings about the state of the world, deepen our sense of interconnection, and find renewed inspiration for action.
Each session will guide us through the spiral of Active Hope—Gratitude, Honouring Our Pain, Seeing with New Eyes, and Going Forth—helping us cultivate resilience and collective strength in the face of ecological and social challenges.
Whether you are new to this work or already engaged in transformative action, you are welcome. Let’s come together to share, listen, and co-create a thriving, regenerative future.
Let’s grow a South African community of Active Hope
